Georgia Tech's Australian defensive lineman Adam Gotsis continued to make an impact on American college football, helping his side to their first Orange Bowl victory in 63 years.

The Yellow Jackets defeated Mississippi State 49-34 in Miami on Wednesday and the 127kg Victorian played his part.

Gotsis, who is in his junior year and stands at 195cm, sacked quarterback Dak Prescott late in the fourth quarter of the Yellow Jackets' victory.

"Couldn't be more proud to be a yellow jacket! Love all my brothers #GTfamily #GTFB #OrangeBowlChamps #HappyNewYear," said 22-year-old Gotsis on his Twitter account.

Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas starred, running for three touchdowns and throwing for another to lead his side home.

Thomas ran for 121 yards and threw for 125 while Synjyn Days rushed for 171 yards and three scores, including a 69-yarder that defused Mississippi State's comeback bid.

Mississippi State lost three of their final four games in a disappointing end to the season, after having been ranked No.1 for five consecutive weeks.
