Matt Ebden has been upset by a local wildcard in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Canada.
The world no.52 Australian missed a golden chance to make the final 32 of the ATP Masters 1000 event, losing 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 to Peter Polansky in one hour and 34 minutes.
Heavy rain delayed play for nearly three hours in Toronto but it didnt appear to hamper Canadian star Milos Raonic.
The former world No.3, who has been plaguged by numerous injures over the past two years, advanced to the second round with a straight-sets win over 10th-seeded David Goffin of Belgium.
Raonic used his powerful serve to his advantage, firing 13 aces and winning 100 per cent of his first serves in the 6-3 6-4 victory.
"I think I can still serve much better. I don't think I necessarily served particularly well, so I'll take the time to work on some things tomorrow," he told ATP.com.
Argentine 11th seed Diego Schwartzman trounced Briton Kyle Edmund 6-1 6-2 while Spanish 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta won the opening set 6-0 when when his Japanese opponent Yoshihito Nishioka retired.
Four qualifiers advanced to the round of 32 including Russian Daniil Medvedev, who upset 13th-seeded American Jack Sock 6-3 3-6 6-3 - the others were Bradley Klahn, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Ilya Ivashka.
Croatian Borna Coric, Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, Frenchman Benoit Paire and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics also won in the first round.
