Local hope Jarmila Gajdosova has been outclassed by world No.3 Simona Halep, who marched into the Australian Open third round with a straight sets win.

Halep steamrolled the Australian world No.62 6-2 6-2 in just 67 minutes to reinforce her position as a tournament favourite.

Gajdosova didn't play too badly but Halep, a quarter-finalist last year, was a model of consistency and showed her superior athleticism.

The Romanian will face Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the third round.
