Australian olive oil producers have picked up a swag of awards at an international competition in the US.
Victoria's Cobram Estate collected five gold medals and two best in class trophies at the New York International Olive Oil Competition in New York.
Springfield Olive Grove and Camillo Max's Blend, both also from Victoria, picked up a best in class award and silver medal respectively.
The entries were among 700 extra virgin olive oils from around the world - including Italy, Spain and the US - that were tasted by a panel of international experts over the last three days.
"Achieving such recognition from the esteemed international panel of olive oil experts assembled in New York confirms we are producing world class Extra Virgin olive oils in Australia," Cobram Estate CEO McGavin said.
Australians consume an average of two litres of olive oil per person per year, the majority of which is Extra Virgin, according to Cobram, the highest per capita consumption outside Mediterranean countries.
Olives are an annual crop and are harvested in Australia between March and June.
