Aussie K4 crew win canoe World Cup gold

Australia's men have enjoyed success at the Canoe Sprint World Cup, winning the K4 1000 in Hungary.

The Australian K4 1000 team won gold at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Hungary, recording their first victory in a major international race since the London Olympics.

The crew of Tate Smith, Murray Stewart, Jacob Clear and David Smith held out a quality European field to finish at the top of the podium on Saturday.

"To come out and pull that sort of race off, it just goes to show how good we can race when we get our stuff together," Tate Smith said.

"We just worried about ourselves, we didn't worry about the other K4s and I think that worked for us."

It was a solid day for the Australians at Szeged, with K4 member Stewart winning silver and Beijing gold medallist Ken Wallace bronze in the K1 1000.

Stewart led for all but the last 100 metres of the race, with German Max Hoff powering home to make it a hat-trick of wins at the first three world cups this year.
