Aussie Lee's US Jnr Amateur defence ends

Australian Min Woo Lee's hopes of back-to-back US Junior Amateur championships are over after he was beaten in match play at the round of 64 stage.

Joshua Armstrong is the last Australian standing at the US Junior Amateur championship in Kansas after compatriots Min Woo Lee and Cameron John were beaten in match play.

Armstrong's round at Flint Hills National Golf Club on Wednesday included an eagle on the par-five 11th and he needed a birdie on the first extra hole to prevail against American Colin Bowles.

Canberran Armstrong will play another American, Trent Phillips, in the round of 32.

Defending champion Lee, who won last year to create history as the only brother-sister combination to claim USGA junior championships after the 2012 US Girls' Junior success of Minjee, led two-up early in his match against Noah Norton but the American fought back to win two and one.

Cameron John lost to American Aaron Chen on the 19th hole, with the Victorian unable to match his opponent's birdie.

After two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, the championship switched format with the top 64 making the cut for the match play section.
