Aussie man killed fighting for IS: reports

Photos posted on Twitter claim to show the dead body of an Australian man who was fighting for Islamic State in Syria but the death is unconfirmed.

An Australian man has been killed fighting for Islamic State in Syria, according to unconfirmed reports on social media.

Photos published on Twitter claim to show the body of a man named by IS as Abu Jihad Al-Australi.

The tweets have not been independently verified.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been contacted for comment.

The activity on Twitter follows reports of Melbourne teenager Jake Bilardi's unconfirmed involvement in a suicide bombing in Iraq.

IS last week released images of the Craigieburn teenager, claiming he blew himself up in a co-ordinated car bomb attack in Ramadi, west of Baghdad earlier this month.

Melbourne University Suhan Rahman, 23, of Roxburgh Park in Melbourne's north, is believed to have been fighting in an IS controlled area in Syria for several months.

Rahman has previously posted on line photographs of himself posing with an AK-47 and IS militants.
