Aussie Matt Jones reclaims US PGA card

Australian Matt Jones finished tied fifth at the season-ending Web.com Tour tournament to win back his US PGA tour card.

Australian Matt Jones has taken until the last day of the golf season to earn back his US PGA tour card.

Jones, ranked 329 in the world, finished tied fifth at the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship in Florida.

It was enough to secure him 17th place on Web.com tour's finals money list, with his four-under 65 final round at Atlantic Beach Country Club on Monday seeing him surge from 47th at the start of the day.

The 25 highest-earners of the Web.com tour finals gain PGA Tour cards, while the top 25 earners from the regular-season had already qualified.

Jones, the 2015 Australian Open winner, lost his card in 2016 after failing to gain a top-10 finish at a PGA tournament that year.

Compatriot Cameron Percy finished tied-20th on Monday to miss out on a regular PGA spot.

The new US PGA season begins on Thursday with the Safeway Open in Napa, California.
