Aussie men beat Canada in world volleyball

Australia's men's volleyball team, the Volleyroos, have beaten Canada in five tight sets in their World League match in Edmonton.

The Australian men's volleyball team has come from two sets to love down to pull off a stunning victory over Canada in their World League match in Edmonton.

Looking down and out after losing the opening two sets 27-25, 25-20, the Volleyroos showed they were almost back to the form that took them to the 2012 Olympic Games by winning the final three sets 30-28, 25-17, 15-13.

The result is an enormous boost for the Australians just one week out from their clash with group leaders Belgium in Adelaide.

Australia's win over Canada was even more satisfying given they were without their most-capped player, South Australia's Nathan Roberts, and main point scorer, 212cm Tom Edgar.

But New South Welshman Paul Carroll continued his impressive return to the green and gold after a four-year absence by notching up 24 points, while captain Aidan Zingel and fellow Olympian Adam White demonstrated they were finally injury-free by playing all five sets.

Australia are back in the World League this year after a 15-year absence, celebrating with victory in their first match earlier this month over Finland in Canberra.

After their two matches against Belgium in Adelaide next Friday and Saturday, the Volleyroos will travel to Sydney to host the return leg against Canada.

Sydney will then host the semi-finals the following weekend, with Australia guaranteed a hometown start.
