The aim of the online tool, known as Register4, is to fast-track cancer research by reducing the amount of time researchers have to spend finding people for their studies.
The register was established in 2010 and was available for people studying breast cancer.
It's now been expanded to cover all types of cancer.
On the eve of World Cancer Day, a father and son from Sydney were among the first volunteers to register.
Jim Forbes and his son, Lucas, have both had cancer. Lucas was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2006 while Jim was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of bone marrow cancer, two years ago.
"My myeloma really relies on a lot of research," said Jim. "I've been diagnosed for two years and life expectancy has increased about 30-40 per cent in that time because of cancer research."
The Forbes family is encouraging any men who have cancer to sign up to Register4 in order to help future research projects.
Register4 is free to join and strictly confidential. Visit: www.register4.org.au
