Australia's top-ranked women's golfer Minji Lee is just one shot off the pace, set by clubhouse leader Suzann Petersen, after her second round at the ANA Inspiration, the first LPGA major of the year.

A birdie on the par-five 18th gave Norway's two-times major champion Petersen the sole lead.

"I played really good. It really hasn't been that long of a day, but I played quite a bit of golf," Pettersen told LPGA.com.

"Just Steady Eddie, just plugging along, hitting good shots, giving myself chances."

World No.19 Lee fired a four-under 68 to be six-under, after two bogey-free rounds at Mission Hills Country in Rancho Mirage, California.

Teenager Nelly Korda, two-times major winner Cristie Kerr and seven-times major champion Inbee Park, of Korea, are level with Lee after completing their rounds.

Korda is the 18-year-old daughter of Czech tennis champion Petr Korda and sister of world No.25 golfer Jessica, who is tied for 17th at three-under par.

Overnight leader Karine Icher and American Michelle Wie are also at six-under but are among about 50 players who were unable to complete their second rounds when play was suspended due to darkness.

World No.1 Lydia Ko and world No.2 Ariya Jutanugarn among a group of players tied 11th at four-under.

Defending champion Ko was among a host of players that had to complete their first rounds early on Friday (Saturday AEDT) after strong winds forced an early finish to play a day earlier.

Australia's Sarah Jane Smith carded an even-par 72 to be at two-under while compatriots Su Oh (four-over) and Karrie Webb (nine-over) are likely to miss the cut, with the projected line at one-over.
