Australian paddlers Murray Stewart and Jacob Clear have claimed a silver medal at the canoe sprint World Cup season-opener in Italy.
The Olympic gold medallists, who were part of Australia's victorious K4 1000 team in London, finished less 0.75seconds behind Polish pair Pawel Szandrach and Mariusz Kujawski in the K2 1000 event in Milan on Sunday.
Stewart and Clear raced to an early lead but were caught by their rivals shortly after the 250 metre mark.
Beijing Olympic gold medallist Ken Wallace won Australia's only other medal at the World Cup round, finishing third in the K1 500.
It was a tight battle between Wallace, Hungary's Bence Dombvardi and Josef Dostal of the Czech Republic, with less than half-a-second separating the three.
Australia's K4 team opted not to compete in Milan but may race at the second World Cup event in the Czech Republic later this month.
