Australian rider Toby Price has won his third stage of the opening six legs at the Dakar Rally in Bolivia.

Australian rider Toby Price sits second overall in the Dakar Rally after winning the sixth stage in Bolivia - his third triumph at the 2016 event.

The 28-year-old, from Singleton in the NSW Hunter Valley, went back-to-back after taking out Thursday's fifth stage.

Price of Red Bull KTM Factory won by one minute and 12 seconds over the Honda of Paulo Goncalves. Despite an excellent start, the Portuguese rider was unable to counter the Australian's comeback.

Price, who is competing in the race for the second time after finishing third last year, trails Goncalves in the general standings by just 35 seconds, with Matthias Walkner third.

In the car section, Stephane Peterhansel has finished ahead of Peugeot teammates Carlos Sainz and nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb.
