The Pittsburgh Steelers have given Australian punter Brad Wing another chance at playing in the NFL.
Wing, 22, was one of US college football's hottest punting prospects with a record-breaking career at Louisiana State University (LSU), but his dream of playing in the NFL has not gone to plan.
Off-field indiscretions at LSU made NFL teams wary and he was snubbed at April's draft.
When the Philadelphia Eagles picked him up as a free agent, Wing failed a basic fitness test and was cut before the 2013/14 season began.
The Steelers have won more Super Bowls than any other team, but the past two years they missed the playoffs and are desperate to improve the special teams unit.
The Steelers used three punters this season, including Australian and former Dallas Cowboy Mat McBriar, who joined the team in October when Zoltan Mesko was cut.
Wing has been signed to a futures-reserve contract, which gives the Steelers a chance to work with him over the off-season.
