Jarryd Hayne might be a rising star in the NFL, but Essendon-raised punter Jordan Berry is also being showered with applause.
Berry is in a tantalising battle with another Melbourne punter, incumbent Brad Wing, for the Pittsburgh Steelers job.
Berry was one of the few highlights in the Steelers' blowout 43-19 pre-season loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday and appears set to end Wing's employment at the club.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was full of praise for Berry in the post-game press conference.
Berry had four punts, averaging 50 yards for the day including a 78-yard effort, and showed his versatility by also kicking off when Garrett Hartley injured his right hamstring.
"Boy I like the work of Berry in relief," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, referring to Berry filling in for the kicker, said.
"He had an opportunity to show some versatility there and good work on his part."
Wing, who was inconsistent last year for the Steelers, had two punts averaging 25 yards, although he did show his Aussie rules toughness when he tackled Bills returner Marcus Thigpen to thwart a touchdown.
