Aussie Reed re-considers motocross future

Australian motocross star Chad Reed is weighing up his future after a horror week of injuries while racing in the American Supercross series.

Australian Chad Reed's immediate future on two wheels is in doubt, with injury again curtailing his season in the American Supercross series.

The 31-year-old returned to California on Monday to discuss his next move after dislocating his shoulder during practice for the latest round of the championship in Texas at the weekend.

It capped an already painful week for the New South Welshman, who suffered a broken scapula, collarbone and T1 vertebrae in a last-lap crash in San Diego seven days earlier.

"It was a bummer," he told motocross website Vital MX.

"But I felt like I needed to try. I would've been frustrated (if I didn't). The physical hurt is one thing, the emotional part of it is harder.

"Now I'm in a position where I've got some thinking to do and some planning to do, figure out our next move."

Asked what that move might be, Reed said: "I honestly don't know.

"It's going to take a lot of talking to the people around me and trying to figure out what's best for us moving forward."

It's likely Reed will miss the remaining 10 rounds of the season, in which he's already won two races.

His second victory - at Anaheim a fortnight ago - bumped him up to second on the riders' standings. He has since slipped back to sixth.

But the former world champion has assured fans via Twitter he is not retiring from the sport, saying he was too young to give it up.

"Injuries are part of the game, kids and wife are here with me ao life's good. Trying to make BIG plans," he tweeted.

Reed missed large chunks of the 2012 and 2013 seasons recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in a horrific race incident two years ago.
