The culmination of 29 Australian happiness surveys over 12 years has revealed that those living within the 'golden triangle of happiness' are more likely to have a permanent smile on their faces.
The study found that the new triangle consists of an emotionally intimate relationship, up to $100,000 of gross household income and a social activity that offers a sense of purpose.
Author of the study, Professor Robert Cummins at Deakin University says Australia's state of happiness has been reliably constant for the last decade.
He says the average Australian is generally happy.
“There is no need to look for it since we are all genetically programmed to have normally positive levels of happiness and contentment," says Mr Cummins.
"If life is reasonably comfortable, without a dominating source of distress, happiness will find you."
