Aussie Robertson in UK Champ snooker final

World snooker No.1 Neil Robertson is in the UK Championship final for the first time with a 9-8 win over Stuart Bingham in a tense last-four match-up.

Australian world No.1 Neil Robertson survived a stirring comeback from England's Stuart Bingham on Friday to reach the final of snooker's UK Championship for the first time.

Robertson, 31, led 8-3 at the Barbican Centre in the northern English city of York, putting him within one frame of victory, only for Bingham to launch a superb fightback and level the match.

However, Robertson emerged victorious from a tense final frame to complete a gripping 9-8 victory.

He will face the winner of Saturday's second semi-final between defending champion Mark Selby and Ricky Walden.

"I've improved with every performance as the tournament's gone on," said Robertson. "I've still got a few gears to come, so hopefully my best snooker's to come in the final."

Bingham said: "I was just trying to make the score respectable and then, all of a sudden, I had a chance to win. I'm just gutted, lost for words."
