Little is separating Victorian golfer Brett Coletta and New South Welshman Cameron Davis in Incheon, Korea this week, with Coletta on Friday taking a one shot lead over Davis after two rounds at the Asia-Pacific amateur golf championship.
The two aren't far apart after hours either, with Coletta and Davis sharing a room for the week as they chase the winner's prize of a start at the 2017 US Masters.
Ahead of Saturday's third round, Coletta was leading the way at 10-under-par, with Davis a shot back after a three-under-par 69.
Coletta wrapped up his second successive round of 67 with a birdie on his final hole, as overnight leader Davis was preparing to tee off for the second round, at that point three shots behind Coletta.
"I just said 'well played mate', he did play well so it was worth saying something," Davis said of their exchange before he teed off.
"I don't want to come across as someone who is unfriendly so I thought I needed to say something. I thought he had been playing well too, it wasn't easy."
And Davis has every reason to want to keep things amicable, as not only will the leading pair play together on Saturday, but they were also planing on eating together on Friday, before heading back to the room they've shared since Monday.
"I'm sure it's going to be just as it always is; we'll both have a laugh about it," Davis said.
"Everyone's going to having dinner together so I'm sure banter will be going between the golf and whatever else, so it's be really light among us tonight and I'm sure it will be the same on the course tomorrow."
Japan's Junya Kameshiro is three shot in arrears in third while Perth's Curtis Luck, already qualified for the Masters as the US Amateur Champion, is one of four golfers tied for fourth place on five-under.
