Ed Jenkins has relinquished his role as skipper of the Australian sevens team, with a rotating captaincy policy to be installed for the upcoming world series.
Jenkins, who led Australia during their disappointing Rio Olympics campaign this year, vacated the role after five years.
Injured playmaker Lewis Holland has been named as his replacement, but he won't be available until after the 2016-17 world series after rupturing his achilles.
"Throughout the season we'll appoint tournament captains for each tournament," Australian coach Andy Friend said.
The 30-year-old Jenkins, the most capped Australian sevens player, has not ruled out playing beyond his two-year contract ending in 2018.
"Over the next few years, I want to help the younger guys with their leadership and pass on any knowledge I've gained over the past eight years," said Jenkins.
"I never thought I'd get to Rio, so you never know what's around the corner and this is potentially my last Sevens contract, so I want to give it everything to put the team in good stead."
The first tournament of the world series is in Dubai on December 2-3.
