Aussie short film finalist for SXSW

Australian film Blood Pulls a Gun has been selected for a US film festival for emerging talent.

An Australian short film is among the finalists at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Blood Pulls a Gun, directed by Ben Briand, is one of 23 films in the running for the Grand Jury Award at the SXSW festival which opens on March 7.

Briand's film was selected from more than 4,000 entries to the SXSW festival.

It recently won an Australian award for cinematography.

Set in a derelict roadside motel, Blood Pulls a Gun follows the life of Alice, the motel owner's daughter.

"I wanted to tell an honest, emotional character story with a romanticised aesthetic," Briand said.

SXSW is an official qualifying event for the the Academy Awards short films competition.
