An Australian man who died fighting Islamic State militants in Syria has paid tribute to his Kurdish comrades and sent his love to his family in a posthumous video.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units on Friday posted the video online of 23-year-old Reece Harding, who died after stepping on a landmine last week.

"I volunteered to join the YPG to fight against Daesh. I believe the western world is not doing enough to help. The Kurdish people are lovely people and I've never met such a nice group of people. If anything happens to me, parents, I love you, brother, I love you, Isabelle, I love you," Mr Harding said.
