Aussie spies, police sent to Gallipoli

Australian spies and federal police have been sent into Turkey before Anzac Day commemorations over heightened security fears.

Australian spies and federal police have reportedly been sent to Turkey due to fears of a terrorist attack at Anzac centenary commemorations at Gallipoli.

National security service ASIO, foreign intelligence agency ASIS and Australian Federal Police staff have been dispatched to Turkey in the lead-up to the 100th anniversary of the military operation, News Corp Australia reports.

Special forces personnel have also been sent in case Australian officials visiting the Gallipoli site on April 25 need to be moved, it says.

Citing unnamed sources, News Corp Australia says the Turkish government is aware of the operatives' presence in the country.

The increase in security is thought to be an effort to guard against a potential attack by terrorist groups, including Islamic State.

Thousands of Australians and New Zealanders will be attending the centenary commemorations at Gallipoli.
