Australia's Alanna Smith and her Stanford University team-mates have pulled off a thrilling comeback victory to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament.
Stanford, a number four seed, appeared headed for an upset loss on Monday after trailing 12th seeded South Dakota State by six points with three minutes to go, but they won 66-65 to set up a third round clash with top seed Notre Dame.
Stanford went on a 12-3 run in the final minutes to close the gap, with guard Lili Thompson driving to the basket with eight seconds left and scoring despite being fouled.
Thompson sank the free throw for the lead.
Smith, the daughter of former NBL player Darren Smith and earmarked as a future Australian Olympian, came off the bench for two points and two rebounds.
The 191cm tall forward and Baylor University's Queensland guard Kristy Wallace remain the only Australians left in the women's or men's NCAA tournaments.
Smith and Wallace were team-mates on the bronze medal-winning Australian Under 19 team at last year's world championships in Russia.
Stanford plays Notre Dame on Friday while Baylor, also a number one seed, will be favourites when they take on fifth seed Florida State in their third round game on Saturday.
