Aussie tech helping Brazil's soccer stars

An Australian movement company is helping Brazil's soccer stars keep track of how they recover from injury.

The Australian company behind a unique sensor technology that helps get injured sports stars back up and running has signed up one of Brazil's biggest soccer clubs.

Movement technology company DorsaVi struck the deal with Brazilian heavyweights Sao Paulo FC, the country's most successful club, to adopt its wearable sensor technology ViPerform.

The pioneering sensor technology is also used by English Premier League club Manchester United, Cricket Australia and a raft of AFL teams including 2013 premiers Hawthorn.

ViPerform screens player movement and muscle activity to provide analysis in real-time.

It gives coaching staff an accurate picture of where players are at in terms of recovering from injuries.

DorsaVi chief executive Andrew Ronchi said the deal with Sao Paulo opens up new South American commercial opportunities in the football market.

"We met with Sao Paulo FC three months ago and showed them some of the work we'd been doing the AFL clubs and English Premier League teams," Mr Ronchi told AAP.

"They saw an obvious application for it and could use the technology in a similar way to EPL clubs to gather information on their players."

The club will use two ViPerform products in the deal, which is worth around $15,000 a year.

Sao Paulo will also advertise the Australian company on its training tops and advertising hoarding at its training base.

The announcement caps a positive week for DorsaVi who won clearance from US regulators to sell their clinical ViMove product which could assist in the treatment of back pain on Tuesday.

Shares in DorsaVi were up one cent at 45.5 cents at 1543 AEST.
