Aussie teen misses world youth 100m final

Tasmanian sprinter Jack Hale finished sixth in his 100m semi-final at the World Youth Championships in Colombia.

Teenage Australian sprint star Jack Hale has failed to qualify for the 100m final at the World Youth Championships in Cali, Columbia.

The 17-year-old Tasmanian finished sixth in his semi-final on Thursday morning (AEST) and 17th overall in a time of 10.70 seconds from lane four.

Japan's Abdul Hakim Sani Brown was the fastest qualifier heading into the final with a new championship record time of 10.30.

Earlier in the day, Hale took second place in his heat in a time of 10.66, just behind Trinidad and Tobago's Akanni Hislop (10.53).

Fellow Australian Jordan Shelley also failed to qualify for the final, finishing seventh in his semi-final in 10.83.

Hale will continue his first international meet when he contests the 200m on Saturday.
