Aussie Tomljanovic into Japan tennis semis

Australian Ajla Tomljanovic will play Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer in the Japan tennis semi-finals after beating US third seed Madison Brengle 1-6 6-3 6-4.

P - Australian Ajla Tomljanovic has won through to the semi-finals of the Japan women's open tennis in Tokyo.

The seventh seed has advanced, coming from a set down to beat American third seed Madison Brengle 1-6 6-3 6-4.

Brengle had been the highest surviving seed after the early-round defeats of No.1 Carla Suarez Navarro and second-ranked Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. Fourth-seeded American Alison Riske was also an early casualty.

In other quarter-final action, Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer accounted for Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 3-6 6-3 6-4.

In the semi-finals, Tomljanovic will face off against Wickmayer for a berth in the final.
