Aussie trio win Indian hockey league final

The Delhi Waveriders, featuring three Australian hockey stars, have won the Hockey India League final to claim $450,000 in prize money.

Three of Australia's hockey stars will enjoy a share of around $450,000 after helping the Delhi Waveriders to grand final victory in the Hockey India League (HIL).

Kookaburras Matt Gohdes, Tristan White and Jason Wilson featured for the Waveriders as they overcame the Jaypee Punjab Warriors in a tense shoot-out after finishing 3-3 at full-time in Ranchi on Sunday.

It was a very much an Australian affair, with seven Kookaburras lining up for the defeated Warriors - including skipper Mark Knowles and three-times Olympic medallist Jamie Dwyer.

The team was also coached by former national team coach Barry Dance, who led Australia to Olympic gold at the 2004 Athens Games.

Gohdes, White and Wilson join fellow Kookaburra Fergus Kavanagh as winners of the competition, following his title victory with the Ranchi Rhinos in the inaugural HIL last year.
