Aussie U19s romp to World Cup win over PNG

An 156 from Nathan Sweeney and a seven-wicket haul to Jason Ralston has fired Australia to a 311-run win over PNG at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Australia have romped to a 311-run win over Papua New Guinea to ensure they will progress to the quarter-finals of the Under-19 cricket World Cup.

The Australians were always in control in Lincoln in New Zealand on Friday with a 156 from Nathan McSweeney powering them to 8-370 from 50 overs, before quick Jason Ralston took seven wickets to skittle PNG.

McSweeney smashed 18 fours and four sixes in his 111-ball knock as he notched up the second-highest innings of the tournament, behind New Zealand's Jakob Bhula's 180 against minnows Kenya.

After the Australians posted the second biggest total of the tournament, the Papua New Guineans were bowled out for just 59 inside 25 overs.

Ryan Harris' side locked up second spot in group B and will advance to the quarter finals where they will likely meet England next Tuesday.

The Australians were in early trouble at 1-3 after Max Bryant was bowled by a Sema Kamea yorker however McSweeney and Jason Sangha (88) piled on 250 for the second wicket.

PNG were never in the run chase with Leke Morea (20) the only batsman to make it into double figures as right-armer Ralston took 7-15 from his 6.5 overs.

Ralston's figures were the best of the tournament so far and took him to third on the most wickets list.
