Aussie U19s through to World Cup quarters

Jake Doran scored 99 not out as Australia defeated Bangladesh by 74 runs to go through to the quarter-finals of the U19 Cricket World Cup.

Australia is through to the U19 Cricket World Cup quarter-final after smashing Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi.

Jake Doran scored 99 not out as Australia defeated them by 74 runs having set Bangladesh a victory target of 245.

The Aussie young guns topped their pool group and will play the West Indies at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Doran finished one run shy of a ton after leading an Aussie fight-back with the bats to post a defendable 2-244.

Ben Ashkenazi and Tom Andrews then took three wickets apiece to bowl Bangladesh out for 170 in 42 overs to seal the win.

Australia was in trouble early after being sent in to bat and reaching 4-61 in the 19th over.

But Doran and captain Alex Gregory slowly but steadily accumulating a 105-run partnership, which saw Australia into three figures.

Nihaduzzaman was the best of the Bangladeshi bowlers with 2-32.

The win lifted Australia into first spot in their pool group, while cricket minnows Afghanistan leapfrogged Bangladesh into second as the other quarter-finals qualifier.

Afghanistan scored 130 runs in boundaries as it sprinted to the 192-run target in under 26 overs to beat Namibia by four wickets at Abu Dhabi Oval 2.

Australia will travel to Dubai on Thursday and will not train.
