Aussie women into Rugby Sevens final

Australia's Rugby Sevens girls' team have romped into the gold medal match, obliterating USA in the process in China.

The Australian Rugby Sevens girls team will play Canada in the gold medal match on Wednesday at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing.

Australia comfortably defeated the USA in their semi-final, running out 33-0 winners in the romp and will take on the Canadians, who they previously defeated 21-5 in the group phase.

Shenae Ciesiolka was the star for the Aussies, bagging a double, while it was Dom du Toit who gave Australia a flying start, scoring just 15 seconds into the match.

Tiana Penitani and Marioulla Belessis completed the scoring for Australia.

Head coach Tim Walsh was understandably rapt with the performance.

"The semi-final was the perfect lead up to the final. The girls scrambled well in defence and scored some well-executed tries," Walsh said.

"The team have worked hard and the day-by-day countdown is finally only one sleep away. The gold medal match will feature two Women's Sevens teams with two contrasting styles. The girls are ready to make history."

Caitlin Moran, who has been a star for Australia throughout the tournament in China, gave credit to her brother for pushing her as she grew up.

"That's a shout out to my brother! Thank you for all the backyard biffs that we had - when I hated you because you pushed me into the fence - it really got my footwork going," Moran said.

Having already beaten Canada once, Australia will head into the final as favourites.

Canada won their semi-final over host nation China with a tight 26-19 victory.
