He's a 21-year-old making his major championship debut but Cameron Smith could just win the US Open.
Refusing to be overawed, the 21-year-old Australian posted a one-under-69 in Saturday's third round to be tied fifth, just three shots off the lead at the brutally tough Chambers Bay course.
World No.165-ranked Smith started the event at odds of 1001 to one and has rolled along under the radar.
But he goes into the final round with a chance to become the first player to win in his majors debut since Keegan Bradley won the 2011 US PGA Championship.
The last player to win the US Open on debut was Francis Ouimet as a 20-year-old way back in 1913.
"It's like a dream come true, really. That's all I can say," said Smith.
I'm happy with one-under. I played pretty well today.
"I got off to a bit of a rusty start, but brought it back on the back nine.
"Today was an awesome experience. I felt like there was a few more people out there (watching) today, obviously probably being at the back of the field but I just kept it within myself and just kept playing."
Queenslander Smith is aware a top-five finish would also likely get him temporary special membership on the US PGA Tour for the remainder of the year, a tremendous carrot given he has no status on any American tour.
"The game plan today was 18 pars, get out there and play smart and just putt it well," he said. "That's been the game plan all week.
"If I can do that tomorrow, hopefully I'll be in with a shot."
