David Warner has picked up where he left off at Lord's, racing to a score of 87 at lunch on day one of Australia's clash with Derbyshire.
Warner was unbeaten at Thursday's meal break in Derby, eyeing his first century of the Ashes tour.
Australia were 0-132 after winning the toss, with Shaun Marsh on 39.
Marsh is likely to open at Edgbaston if Chris Rogers fails to prove his fitness before the third Test starts on Wednesday.
Rogers is undergoing further tests on his vestibular system, having retired hurt on day four of the second Test due to an alarming dizzy spell.
Warner scored 83 in Australia's second dig at Lord's as his side marched towards a series-levelling win.
The 29-year-old was in similarly good touch during Thursday's morning session, albeit against a vastly inferior and inexperienced bowling attack.
Warner was never troubled by Derbyshire's trundlers.
The pugnacious opener's only uncomfortable moment came on 50, when he appeared to be struck on the box by a testing ball from paceman Will Davis.
The main point of interest in the three-day match will be the 'keep-off' between Peter Nevill and Brad Haddin.
Haddin, who withdrew from the second Ashes Test due to family reasons, is set to share wicketkeeping duties with Nevill in this match.
Pacemen Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, offspinner Nathan Lyon and in-form batsman Steve Smith were rested from the fixture.
