Aussies fall at Hoops Summit

Harry Froling and William McDowell-White were hoping to continue Australia's strong showings at the event in Oregon.

The Nike Hoops Summit was a showcase for Ben Simmons and Dante Exum in recent years, but two of Australia's next wave of basketball talent did not fair so well.

The US, made up of America's best high school players, crushed the World squad on Saturday that included Australian 17-year-olds Harry Froling and William McDowell-White.

The US shot out to a 16-0 lead and were never challenged, ending with a 101-67 victory in Portland, Oregon.

Dallas guard Terrance Ferguson torched the international squad with 21 points, all on three-pointers.

Brazil's Wesley Silva was the top scorer for the World team with nine points.

The US went into the game looking to regain their pride with World teams winning three of the previous four Nike Hoops Summits.

Last year, Australians Ben Simmons and Thon Maker led the World team to victory while Dante Exum starred in the 2014 game.

The annual event attracts NBA scouts and US college coaches.
