Australia piled on their sixth highest score in women's one-day history to flog England by 75 runs in the rain-affected second match of the Ashes series.

After captain Rachael Haynes whacked an unbeaten 89 as Australia finished at 6-296, Megan Schutt was the hero with the ball as she claimed 4-26 to give the hosts their second win of the series.

The only hiccup came for Australia when Ellyse Perry was taken out of the attack by the umpires for dangerous bowling in her third over, after she sent down two consecutive beamers.

After play was stopped for a combined 45 minutes for rain, hail and a heavy storm, Perry struggled to grip the white ball as she sent down two chest and head-high no balls.

But it mattered little as fellow opening bowler Schutt did the damage at the other end.

After she trapped openers Lauren Winfield (2) and Tammy Beaumont (8) LBW early, Schutt returned to claim the key wickets of Fran Wilson (37) and Katherine Brunt (52) as England were all out for 209.

"She was outstanding," Haynes said.

"I thought she really stood up when we lost Ellyse Perry early due to the conditions.

"It was really tough conditions for our bowlers. As soon as the ball hit the ground it got quite wet and quite difficult."

It marked Australia's third biggest win over world champions England in 14 years, and gave them a four-point lead over the visitors after winning the opening two matches of the series.

It means that with four points on offer from the one-off Test and two points in each of the three Twenty20s and remaining ODI, the Aussies are just four points away from retaining the urn.

Earlier, Haynes put the Australians in a commanding position as she helped the home side belt 94 off their final 10 overs at Coffs Harbour International Stadium on the NSW north coast.

The captain struck nine fours and three sixes in her 56-ball knock, as she combined for an an 86-run fourth-wicket partnership with Perry (67) after Australia were sent in to bat.

Their top four all reached 50.

"I felt good," Haynes said.

"I've been in some good form towards the start of the season, so it was nice.

"Alyssa Healy (56) and Nicole Bolton (66) were very patient early and that allowed players like Ellyse Perry and I to come in at the end there and build on that foundation then cash in."
