Aussies harder to beat than Poms: Holder

West Indies allrounder Jason Holder says the Windies will need to play better to beat Australia than they did in their recent series against England.

Australia tougher to beat than England? A West Indies star seems to think so.

Jason Holder, the allrounder who many are tipping as the Windies' next Test captain, was under no illusions his team faced a bigger challenge in their current series against Australia than their recent three-Test campaign against England.

That series ended 1-1 with the Windies defeating England inside three days in the third and final Test in Barbados.

After witnessing the Windies being dismissed for just 148 on day one of the first Test against Australia in Dominica, Holder says they'll need to up their game for a positive result.

"We had a pretty decent series against England but that's behind us, at this present time we're playing Australia and they're the No.2 ranked side in the world," Holder said.

"We need to be better than we were in the England series."

Despite their disappointing opening day, Holder says he can promise Australia tougher days ahead for the remainder of the tour.

"We just need to stand up and fight," he said.

"We showed a lot of fight in the last series and we've shown fight in the past, it's within each and every individual to show some fight.

"We didn't show enough today, but I'm very confident we'll rebound in this series."
