Aussies Kirk, Lee off pace at Evian golf

Australian hopefuls Katherine Kirk and Minjee Lee are sitting well off the pace at the Evian Championships despite carding respectable third round scores.

Australia's Katherine Kirk has launched a third round comeback at the Evian Championship in France but she looks unlikely to chase down the leaders.

Kirk carded a five-under-par 66 to lift herself into 13th place in the final women's major of the season at Evian-les-Bains on Saturday.

The 36-year-old Queenslander bogeyed the 11th hold but she still shot a remarkable six birdies, with only three players - American leader Amy Olsen, second-placed South Korean Sei Young Kim and seventh-placed American Ryann O'Toole - carding a better round.

Kirk has wiped away some of the damage from her error-laden second round, but she's still eight shots off the pace going into the final round on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Australian world No.6 Minjee Lee has carded a three-under-par 69 to move from 26th place to 21st.

The world No.6 has recovered some form over the last two rounds, but is sitting 10 shots off the pace and will need a miracle to make the podium.

Olson is on 14 under after posting a blemish-free 65, two shots clear of Kim, while her fellow American Mo Martin is third on 10 under.
