Australians are being advised not to travel to parts of Thailand amid growing unrest in the country.
Thailand's army chief imposed martial law on Tuesday, after months of deadly anti-government protests.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is advising Australians in Thailand to exercise a high degree of caution and has told travellers not to go to the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla.
"We advise Australians to exercise a high degree of caution in Thailand overall due to the possibility of civil unrest and the threat of terrorist attack," the DFAT website says.
Travellers are also advised to avoid demonstrations, protest sites, political events and large-scale public gatherings.
Thailand has endured years of political turmoil and the dismissal of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra earlier this month in a controversial court ruling stoked tensions.
