Aussies urged to speak up on consular services

An advocacy group for expatriate Australians is encouraging submissions to a review of consular services.

An advocacy group for expatriate Australians is encouraging submissions to a review into the type of consular assistance that should be provided to Australians overseas.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is inviting comment on its Issues Paper, Development of a new Consular Strategy 2014-16, by the end of this month.

The co-founder of the Southern Cross Group Anne MacGregor, who lives in Brussels, admits many of the millions of Australians who travel overseas have unreasonable expectations of what the Department can provide.

But she told Zara Zaher, there is also a greater need for consular support than many people realise.
