Australia banked crucial IRB Sevens series points in Las Vegas by winning the Plate final on Sunday.

Fiji blitzed the All Black Sevens 35-19 to win the tournament, thanks to two tries from Jerry Tuwai Vunisa and Semi Kunatani and another from Savenaca Rawaca.

Fiji held an unshakeable 33-5 lead before Ambrose Curtis crossed twice in the closing minutes to allow the Kiwis some respectability at the final whistle.

Australia got off to a quick start and held firm to beat England 21-14.

Ed Jenkins, Con Foley and Lewis Holland crossed for Australian tries in a victory that consolidated fourth spot on the series standings, crucial given the top four automatically qualify for next year's Rio Olympics.

The sixth tournament of nine in the Sevens world series is scheduled for Hong Kong on March 27-29.

Australia - who lost their quarter-final to NZ 28-7 on Saturday - defeated Canada 17-0 to win through to the Plate decider while England easily accounted for France 26-5.

South Africa, who beat the United States 31-0 in the playoff for third, remain top of the standings.

New Zealand, who won the Wellington sevens title last week, hold onto second place with 88, with Fiji just two points adrift in third.
