Australia A have scored a nine-wicket win over South Africa A in Chennai at the start of their one-day tri-series campaign.

Australia A have begun their one-day tri-series campaign with a nine-wicket win against South Africa A in Chennai.

Usman Khawaja (73 from 82 balls) and Joe Burns (63no) put on an opening 142-run stand on Wednesday to guide Australia to a bonus-point victory with 19 overs to spare.

Travis Head also finished unbeaten with 27 from 20 deliveries.

Hardus Viljoen (1-64) was the sole wicket-taker for South Africa A.

Earlier, South Africa A won the toss and openers Reeza Hendricks (43) and captain Dean Elgar (28) had their team off to a steady start.

Quick wickets to spinners Cameron Boyce (2-34) and Ashton Agar (2-26) curtailed South Africa's innings, who were dismissed for 171 in 48.4 overs.

Wickets were shared between all Australian bowlers with Nathan Coulter-Nile (3-31), James Pattinson (2-41) and Sean Abbott (1-25) also adding to their tallies.

Khawaja was named man of the match.

Australia A will play their next one-dayer against India A on Friday in Chennai.
