Australian basketballers will reportedly be provided with full contract protection while on national team duty under a new deal.

The Herald Sun reports Boomers and Opals players will also be given up to 25 per cent of Basketball Australia's revenue for international matches under a new collective bargaining agreement covering all players to be unveiled on Thursday.

The newspaper suggests that this will make it much easier for NBA stars like Ben Simmons to play for Australia at the 2020 Olympics.

Boomers star Andrew Bogut says the deal - which also gives players a share of merchandise sales proceeds, daily training and match payments, protection of player image rights, and a pregnancy and parental policy - is great for the game.

"We have our sights firmly set on the World Cup and 2020 Olympics, where we're driven to reach the highest level of success," Bogut told the Herald Sun.

"The CBA sets the foundations for us to pursue this level of achievement in global tournaments, supporting us as we aim to fulfil our potential."

Opals star Jenna O'Hea was also optimistic, as the conditions of the agreement covered both male and female players.

"Having these professional conditions established for both teams means we're united together to seek the best results for each other and more widely for the sport of basketball," she said.
