Aust beaten on penalties in U17 WC semi

Australia have been knocked out of the Asian Football Confederation under-16 championships, losing their semi-final to North Korea on penalties.

Australia have bowed out of the Asian Football Confederation under-16 championships following a heartbreaking penalty shootout semi-final loss to North Korea in Thailand.

The Joeys, who punched their ticket to the 2015 under-17 World Cup by reaching the final four, lost 4-1 on penalties after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes on Wednesday night.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Joeys forced their way back into the game through an 85th minute equaliser to Daniel Arzani.

With no extra-time played at the tournament, players were sent straight to penalties - where their Asian counterparts proved far too strong, converting all four spot kicks to advance to the final.
