Maroon did not agree with unlikely Queensland import David Warner but, in the end, his Bulls were seeing red after Australia cruised to victory in their final hitout before their one-day tour of Zimbabwe.
Proud NSW batsman Warner refused to wear Queensland colours, opting to play in green and gold when he made a guest appearance for the Bulls in the 45-over-a-side practice match at Brisbane's Allan Border Field on Tuesday.
But Warner still showed his true colours, belting 84 off 60 balls to help lift Queensland to a challenging 9-345.
However, Queensland were left black and blue after big hitting from Steve Smith (65 not out off 40 balls) and James Faulkner (43 not out off 16) guided Australia to a four-wicket win with eight balls to spare.
Australia fly out on Wednesday for a one-day tri-series in Zimbabwe that also includes South Africa.
Warner joined NSW teammate Nathan Lyon and former Blues batsman Phil Hughes in the Queensland line-up ahead of the latter duo's trip to Zimbabwe.
Test opener Warner isn't in the Australian ODI side for the tri-series as he prepares to welcome his first child with partner Candice Falzon.
Hughes continued his recent top form, smashing 57 off 41 balls, while Bulls batsman Joe Burns hit an impressive 117 off 102.
However, their heroics were not enough.
Australian opener Aaron Finch set the early pace in the run chase, blasting 90 off 66 balls including 10 fours and five sixes.
Mitch Marsh (42 off 43) and captain Michael Clarke (25 off 31) consolidated before Smith and Faulkner's late pyrotechnics ensured victory.
Lyon went for 2-76 off nine overs while fellow spinner Cameron Boyce (2-60 off 6.2) also copped some treatment on the small, batsman-friendly ground.
