Aust Davis Cup semi in Belgium on clay

Belgium have announced they will host their Davis Cup semi-final against Australia on an indoor clay court in Brussels.

The French Open takes on extra significance for Australia after Belgium announced the Davis Cup World Group semi-final with Lleyton Hewitt's team will be played on a clay court.

Brussels will host the September 15-17 tie indoors at the Palais 12 arena and, should Australia win, it will be guaranteed a home final against either France or Serbia.

With Bernard Tomic still putting himself out of the selection frame, Australia captain Hewitt will likely again look to spearhead Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson in singles with John Peers and Sam Groth in doubles.

Belgium can call on world No.10 David Goffin, who has won an ATP title on clay, and No.49 Steve Darcis.

World No.20 Kyrgios has a clay career-best final appearance in Portugal two years ago and his strong form this season has raised hopes he can make big inroads on the claycourts at the French Open starting late this month.

Australia reached the semi-finals by beating the Czech Republic and then the United States at home.
