Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and her French counterpart have implored the Indonesian government to show clemency to its citizens on death row.

Ms Bishop, in Paris for meetings with Laurent Fabius, discussed the plight of Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and Frenchman Serge Atlaoui, who face imminent execution.

"We will continue to make representations on behalf of our citizens to the President of Indonesia, and respectfully request that he show the same clemency towards the French and Australian citizens as Indonesia seeks other countries to show towards Indonesian citizens who are facing death row in other countries."

Ms Bishop said France and Australia stood together against the death penalty and pleaded for the Indonesian president to spare their lives.
