Aust in medal hunt at World Rowing Champs

Australian crews have enjoyed an impressive repechage day on day three of the World Rowing Championships, with only two crews failing to reach the semis.

Australia will have a strong contingent pushing for medals at the World Rowing Championships later this week following a strong showing in the repechage races on day three in South Korea.

The lightweight women's double scull overcame a slow start to power home and secure a spot in the semi-finals, while the trunk and arms mixed double scull of Kath Ross and Gavin Bellis led from start to finish to win by a length and advance to the A-final.

There was similarly positive news for the lightweight women's single scull representative Ella Flecker, the women's pair of Bec Daniher and Katrina Bateman and lightweight women's double scull all through to the finals, while the lightweight men's eight did enough to make the A-final.

The women's four is a non-Olympic event, and as such competitors were simply racing for lane placings in the final, crossing fourth.

The only crews who are out of the medal hunt are the men's pair of James McRae and Bryn Coudraye, who finished third while needing a top-two finish and will instead contest the C/D semi finals, and the women's quad scull, who will take part in the B final.
