Aust injury stalls Michael Lumb

An injury suffered by Nottinghamshire's Michael Lumb in the Big Bash League in Australia means he will miss the start of the county season in England.

Nottinghamshire batsman Michael Lumb will miss the start of the county season after suffering an injury while playing in the Big Bash League in Australia.

Lumb, 35, has had surgery on a torn tendon in his arm since returning from Australia, where he played for the Sydney Sixers, and it is expected he will now be out for around three months.

"Michael's surgery was successful, and he's due to begin rehab shortly, but I don't want to put a date on his full recovery," said Nottinghamshire physio Jon Alty on the club's official website on Wednesday.

"He'll be doing gentle rehabilitation work for the next four to six weeks, before a full return to batting program from eight weeks."

Director of cricket Mike Newell said Lumb's injury was an opportunity for the likes of Alex Hales, Greg Smith and Steven Mullaney to step up.

"The surgery was necessary if we're going to see him back fully fit," he said.
