The Australian under-17 men's basketball team booked their place in the gold medal match of the 2014 FIBA Under 17 World Championships after a dramatic 80-74 overtime win over Spain in Dubai.

The victory secured Australia consecutive appearances in the tournament final and sets up rematch of the 2012 decider where they lost to the USA to take home the silver medal.

Trailing Spain by as many as 20 points early in the second quarter of the semi-final clash, the Australians produced a gusty comeback to force overtime.

Down by four points with less than 30 seconds of the regulation time remaining, two defining steals led to transition lay-ups for captain Thomas Wilson who drew the scores at 67-67.

With Spain ahead in the extra period it was again Wilson who hit a long two to cut their lead to one point inside the final three minutes.

Five straight points from Isaac Humphries and late free throws from Matthew Owies sealed the momentous victory.

Humphries continued his outstanding tournament, with the 210cm 16-year-old posting 22 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, finding support from Dejan Vasiljevic (14 points and four rebounds), Wilson (13 points and 11 rebounds) and Harry Froling (12 points).
