A new report says corruption rates are rising in Australia and New Zealand and authorities need to bring in more checks and balances.

It also notes both countries are becoming more corrupt in their public and private sectors.

The 10-point advisory plan in the report from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand proposes a crackdown on government contracts, harsher sanctions across a broader range of offences and a vigilant attitude towards foreign deals.
